Professor Ngo Bao Chau received the Legion of Honour medal
French President Nicolas Sarkozy has just been awarded the Medal of the Legion of Honour for Professor Ngo Bao Chau at the Élysée.Along the medal round with Prof. Ngo Bao Chau four others, including former French Ambassador to Afghanistan, a mathematics professor, and two more in the field of activities and sports.
Legion of Honour, sometimes called the Order of the Légion d'Honneur (French: Ordre national de la Legion d'honneur) is the highest medal of the French State. This medal was established on 19.05.1802 Bonapartec Napoleon to reward individuals or organizations (both civilian and military) have special contributions to France. Who was awarded the Legion of Honour will be a Legion d'honneur members (legion of honor), they are called Legionnaire.

On 19/08/2010, at the World Congress of Mathematics held in Hyderabad, India, Prof. Ngo Bao Chau was awarded the Fields Medal - the highest award in mathematics. This is the first time this award is given to a people of Vietnam.
On 03.09.2011, the Ministry of Education has announced organizational decision to establish high-level Research Institute estimates of the Ministry of Education and Appointment GS. Ngo Bao Chau served as Scientific Director of the Institute. Prof. Chau said, will try to ensure the scientific activities of the Institute reflect the spirit and objectives set out in the specific impact on the ability to research, teaching mathematics at the University of Vietnam, attract and create conditions for young mathematicians in Vietnam and foreign countries reached new research on mathematics.
Professor Ngo Bao Chau is currently teaching at the University of Chicago (USA) and GS was recently appointed to the position known as named chairs, and was awarded outstanding professors. So far, fewer than 1% GS was teaching at American University awarded this honor.
Professor Ngo Bao Chau was born in 1972, who studied mathematics for gifted mass spectrometry at the University of Natural Sciences, Hanoi National University and won the Olympic gold medal in international settlement in 1988 and 1989. Prof. Chau received his doctorate at the University of Paris-Sud in 1997.
In 2004, Professor Chau received the annual award of research Clay Mathematics Institute, USA for those who succeed best in years thanks to solve a special case of the "Langlands program". Each year only one or two people to be awarded and Ngo Bao Chau was the first Vietnam this award
