Asia and the rise of feminism
The former Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi, former Philippines President Corazon Aquino and former President Megawati Sukarnoputri of Indonesia ... These women leaders in the countries of South and Southeast Asia during 4 decades.
They are women who have come specifically: husband or father is the founder of the country or taking the helm in a long time. However, it is not the only factor to help them maintain their position of taking over power.
When first elected, none of the women who are learning through any school or class politics. However, these "shortcomings" this is considered an advantage, creating an image innocent, pure, even as "martyrs" as they stood in the position of the husband or his father problem.
None of them focus on an agenda of women (at least not in the first term) and the study also showed that women in rural areas do not have any advantages any special treatment under their leadership.
But in 2011 has changed. Asia still has the female politicians stepped up the political arena, in which a few people have an important position due to family relationships. But now they know your location using a more confident when giving women and their concerns at the center of his agenda.
And perhaps more importantly, there are many women who became head of the country thanks to his political talents.
Sonia Gandhi, widow of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and daughter of the late prime minister Indira Gandhi, became the most powerful women in India after serial "Dynasty" Nehru-Gandhi. Although Sonia is Italian but she had great success in bringing the Congress Party won elections in 2004 and gained confidence of people but as well as Sonia was appointed prime minister on the throne. In addition, she also contributes to the promotion of women's role, particularly in support of Ms. Pratibha Patil became the first woman president of India.
In Southeast Asia, the role of women is gradually being confirmed. Ms. Park Geunhye daughter Chunghee Park (South Korea's president from 1961 to 1979), is one of the brightest candidates for president instead of Lee Myung-bak.
Although politicians joined by family relationships, Ms. Park also proved to be a wise politician and seasoned, a climb up the ladder leaders of the ruling Grand National Party in two decades past century to emerge as a national character.
Compare Geunhye with Corazon Aquino Park, who was elected president of the Philippines is only known to be a housewife with no political qualifications or management experience. It was found that those who vote for the election because she was a widow Corazon's political leaders are the people loved Benigno Aquino. In contrast, no one can deny her professional ability Park. She worked a really serious way to accumulate experience and get political power.
Wave "feminism" also spread to Japan. Yuriko Koike, former Defense Minister and the national security adviser, is one of the most powerful figure in the land of the rising sun and can become a future prime minister of Japan.
Unlike many other leaders in the Liberal Democratic Party, she Koile not come from a family of power. Instead, she has to prove its capability. Graduated from Cairo University and speaks English fluently, Koile always make foreign politicians have to admire.
Ms. Koike is not the only Asian woman to become top leaders are not due to family relationships. Former finance minister of Indonesia, CEO World Bank Sri Mulyani Indrawati also the same. She is often referred to as candidate for the presidency in Indonesia.
A new women leaders in Asia is Thailand Prime Minister Shinawatra Yingluck. Clearly, the prime minister position that she has been Yingluck thanks in part to the influence of his brother, former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who controls the most powerful political party in Thailand. However, during the election campaign, Yingluck has demonstrated the capacity of a political genius entrepreneur.
Unlike the generation of women leaders in Asia first, who took over the family's power, the women leaders present today are strong, confident and ready to face the challenge to lead the nation in his tenure.
