Korean cracking on school violence


School violence is one of the biggest social concerns in South Korea The Korean government has announced some measures to stop school violence.
Korea Times newspaper said the principal may suspend the student's school (HS) in force immediately when the teacher hide the bullying will be punished severely. Each high school class and school facilities will have a teacher to monitor students. Teachers also have the responsibility to advise each at least 1 HS / semester and send reports to parents. The school will keep a record of punishment for violent behavior 5 years for primary school students, middle school and 10 years for high school students after graduation.
In addition, the Korean Ministry of Education will expand a program to help victims by police and consultants. More police patrols will be sent to schools to stop in time, support victims and to collect information about students in an organized gang. The ministry will also offer effective training programs for teachers and parents so they can handle a cachhop bullying and victim protection.
The solution came after a middle school students in Korea in December suicide by bullying classmates over several months. The suicide has shocked South Korea and that education officials fiercely criticized for poor handling of cases of school violence.
When announcing the measures, South Korean Prime Minister Kim Hwang-sik has apologized to the people in school violence and expressed condolences to victims' families.
